An independent energy powerhouse wanted to bring data science and modern software to the well site — replacing disconnected systems and manual guesswork with a platform field teams could actually use.
The Challenge
Field operators and technicians lacked visibility into well and telemetry data, causing missed production opportunities, and information lived across disconnected systems with no centralized way to track KPIs or route health. Inconsistent field inputs made production decisions slow, manual, and hard to trust, and existing tools weren't built for field use, which limited adoption among technicians and lease operators. On top of that, Vital needed a platform that could scale beyond an internal tool into a commercial, B2B-ready product.
The Solution
As design lead, I led a team of two designers through discovery, design, and launch, working in close collaboration with engineers and
product managers to turn field operations insights into a usable, scalable platform. I ran user research and stakeholder working sessions, translated findings into wireframes and prototypes, and took the visual design through to a production-ready UI — presenting progress and decisions to client stakeholders at each phase. I also produced the final product launch video used by the client's marketing and sales teams to introduce the platform externally.

The Results
What began as a 10-week engagement to design an Electrical Submersible Pump application and a Field Data Capture tool grew into a 22+ month partnership to build and launch the Dynamic Routing platform. The finished product improved onsite data accessibility and decision-making, opened a new B2B revenue line for the client, and increased BOE ROI by 100% per day.
